On October 7th our “Fifth Annual SC Club Fall Car Cruise” (a.k.a. OCToberCruise) set out in search of “The Long and Winding Road” and the scenic beauty of the Northeast Iowa Countryside.
We met at the Go America Truck Stop at the corner of Highway 151 and 20 at 8:30 am and headed out for the Elkader Area.
Our route took us over some of our favorite roads as well as some new ones.
The cruise route was a little bit shorter this year. This was so we could take more time to take in a few more of the sites along the route.
This year we stopped along the route and visited the Clayton County Visitors Center & Zoo. As we walked through the zoo, Al talked to the animals and they listened politely.
As we headed North, we drove through the beautiful old town of Elkader. From there we headed South to Volga and then over some twisting roads to Wadena. Then it was back to the North through Elgin, Clarmont and Postville.
Still traveling South, we ran along the Mississippi River down to Marquette were Al and Linda wanted to stop at a big flee market. After looking for them (the flees) we left Marquette and drove to St. Olaf where we stopped for lunch.
We visited the St. Olaf Tap. There we had the biggest tenderloin I think I’ve ever seen. It was a great sandwich, and if you are in the area, I suggest you stop in and try one.
After lunch we took a leisurely drive to Strawberry Point for desert. We stopped at a little Pizza and Ice Cream shop on the South side of town. We spent our time talked about the day, the club and the things we were going to do next summer. It was a great day, spent with some nice people and we got to have fun with the cars we love.
If you missed this year’s cruise, SHAME ON YOU, but it not to late. We’re going to do it again next year, too.
For those of you who missed it, or made it, her is a like to some photos we took. (Photos).
